Spotted Gum Deck on the Canal

Designed to embrace canal-side living, this coastal deck in Maroochydore blends timeless materials with a relaxed, open feel. The brief was simple: create a functional outdoor zone that made the most of the view—without fighting the elements.

We used Spotted Gum decking throughout, a premium Australian hardwood known for its strength, natural durability, and ability to withstand coastal conditions. It’s dense, rich in tone, and weathers beautifully—making it an ideal choice for a home perched just metres from the water.

To complement the timber, we installed marine-grade stainless steel wire balustrade with crisp white posts and a matching timber handrail. The result? A light, airy space that lets the water views take centre stage, while still delivering on safety, structure, and style.

This deck was engineered for both form and function—from its elevation and footings to the small shadow gaps between boards that allow for natural movement and drainage.
